The Anguilla Tourism Board (ATB) has adopted the United Nations World Tourism Day theme: “Tourism and Peace: Fostering travel experiences that encourage mutual respect and cultural exchange.” This theme highlights the connection between travel and the promotion of global harmony, illustrating how tourism can act as a catalyst to foster peace and understanding between nations and cultures.
As stated in the UN World Tourism Organization concept note for World Tourism Day: “Tourism creates fertile ground for innovation and entrepreneurship. By promoting creative solutions and new business models, tourism can stimulate economic growth and provide unique opportunities for talented young people. Supporting entrepreneurial initiatives in tourism can lead to sustainable development and form platforms for innovative peace-building strategies. The future of tourism lies with youth. By investing in young people, offering education and training opportunities and encouraging their active participation in the tourism sector, we can harness their potential to drive social change and promote peace. Young talent brings fresh perspectives, creativity and energy that are vital to the continued evolution of tourism as a force for good.”
Bearing in mind the theme of World Tourism Day, Director of Tourism, Ms. Stacey Liburd, highlighted that tourism is the island’s main economic sector, creating numerous jobs and contributing significantly to the island’s revenue. “It is essential for us to recognise and celebrate the industry and its stakeholders every year, whilst addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. With a high percentage of returning visitors, we value the meaningful connections and partnerships that develop between our residents and guests, which are mutually beneficial for all involved.”
