Termatalia 2024 opened the doors today to its most professional edition to date, with the participation of public and private entities from 25 countries that come to the fair to promote the development and promotion of their thermal destinations. The International Thermal Tourism, Health and Wellness Fair thus becomes the best showcase that reflects a new flourishing of thermalism in Galicia, the leading community in Spain in this tourism sector, as it has 20 spas that generate 19,000 jobs and attracted 190,000 tourists in 2023.
The opening ceremony was chaired this morning by the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, who stressed that thermal tourism brings together all the characteristics of the tourism model that the Xunta is committed to: sustainable, quality tourism that allows the arrival of travellers to the community to be seasonal. He also announced at Termatalia a
new line of aid to modernise the thermal facilities of Galicia with the aim of continuing to be the second thermal power in Europe.
Termatalia is also the best setting to present new campaigns and projects around thermalism. During his speech at the opening ceremony, the president of the Provincial Council of Ourense, Luis Menor, presented the new “Blue Thermalism” that combines two identifying features of this province: thermalism (the leading thermal province in Spain) and the healthy longevity of its inhabitants. Ourense seeks to be the sixth “Blue Zone” in the world, a term that refers to areas with a large long-lived population, many of them over 100 years old.
