As has been the custom for several editions, Termatalia concludes its edition in Ourense by handing over the baton to the country that will host it next year, since, since 2012, the fair alternates its headquarters between Ourense and America every year. The 2025 edition, the sixth of the fair on the American continent, will be held in Colombia.

The mayor of Paipa, Germán Camacho; the secretary of tourism of the Government of Boyacá, Eduin Contreras; the representative of Procolombia, Pascual Martínez; the director of the Paipa Thermal Institute, Martha Florez, and the delegate of Termatalia in this country, Ricardo Ramírez, were responsible for defending the candidacy of this country to be the host of what will be the 23rd edition of the International Fair of Thermal Tourism, Health and Well-being and which will have the objective of positioning Paipa as the most important thermal destination in Colombia.

The passing of the baton to Colombia took place during the official closing ceremony of Termatalia 2024, which also served to celebrate World Tourism Day. The director of the fair, Rogelio Martínez, indicated that “tourism is much more than an economic engine; it is a powerful instrument to promote understanding between nations, cultural exchange and peace. At Termatalia we also add health and well-being. And all the good things that tourism brings with it are staged here by handing over the keys to Termatalia 2025 to Colombia.”

The closing ceremony was chaired by the President of the Parliament of Galicia, Miguel Santalices, who was accompanied by the Director of the Galician Tourism Agency, Xosé Manuel Merelles; the territorial delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Ourense and President of the Executive Committee of Expourense, Manuel Pardo; the Head of the
Welfare Department of the Provincial Council of Ourense, Jose Juan Cerdeira, and the Vice-Chancellor of the Auga-University of Vigo Campus, Francisco Javier Rodríguez Rajo.

The President of Parliament took advantage of his speech at Termatalia to once again call for the inclusion of therapeutic thermalism prescribed by a doctor in the portfolio of services of the Spanish National Health System, stating that “I call for it whenever I have the opportunity and I will continue to do so until my last political breath or until it becomes a reality.”

The director of the Galician Tourism Agency, Xosé Manuel Merelles, also spoke at the event, highlighting that the latest investments in thermal infrastructure and in the renovation of thermal villages allow us to think of “a hopeful future for thermal tourism in Galicia, the great thermal destination in Spain”.

XX International Water Tasting
During this closing ceremony, the prizes of the XX International Mineral Water Tasting were also awarded, a prestigious competition highly valued by mineral water bottling companies. It was once again directed by the Galician hydro-sommelier Mercedes González. The waters awarded were:

Still mineral water category:

- 1st prize: Aguas de Sousas.
- 2nd prize: Agua Sana.
- 3rd prize: Agua de Cuevas.

Sparkling mineral water category:
- 1st prize: Maga Original from Cabreiróa.
- 2nd prize: Solares.
- 3rd prize: Augas from Campilho.

The award for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability was not awarded to a brand, but to a company that manages several mineral water brands (Cabreiroá, Fontarel Zero Sodio and Agua de Cuevas and Auara), Hijos de Rivera. The jury valued the fact that this company “aims to generate a positive impact on the environment in which it operates, being aware that not only what they do is important,
but also the way in which they do it.”

This concludes the most professional edition of Termatalia to date, with a focus on business, with a recruitment pool in which 28 leading tour operators in their countries of origin participated, and with the celebration of the 5th International Congress on Water and Health, which brought together 30 experts and attracted 500 attendees, both in person and online. Termatalia 2024 closes its doors after having attracted 100 exhibitors and having received more than 4,000 visits from professionals from 25 countries.

The next Expourense fair will be another of its international tourism fairs, Xantar. The International Gastronomic Tourism Fair will celebrate its 25th between 24 and 27 October.
