Upon announcing an initial investment of 600 million dollars in Mahahual by Royal Caribbean Group for the redevelopment of this destination, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, expressed her satisfaction with the confidence in this humanist government, but also that this growth preserves the environment and generates shared prosperity for the people of Quintana Roo.
“We are excited to announce this new investment in the state, which follows other recent investments made by the consortium, such as the Royal Beach Club in Cozumel last year. The new push for the development of the Mahahual cruise port is a project that will not only transform this beautiful Caribbean destination, but also reaffirms our commitment to sustainability and community well-being,” said Governor Mara Lezama.
He added that the New Era of the Mexican Caribbean is inspired by a model of responsible development, friendly to the environment, self-managed by the community, exemplified in destinations such as Maya Ka'an.
The presentation of the investment in the state was led by Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, through a digital connection in which he explained that the project promises to transform the destination experience through Perfect Day Mexico, and elevate Quintana Roo as a modern and sustainable tourist reference, with a daily capacity of 21 thousand guests and it is expected that cruise tourism in the region will grow from 2.6 million visitors in its first year to more than 5 million by 2033.
It was explained that this project is aligned with the State Development Plan and framed within the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo promoted by Governor Mara Lezama.
In addition to seeking to strengthen the tourist infrastructure and provide destinations with quality facilities, it reaffirms the Consortium's confidence in Mahahual's tourism potential and its commitment to the local community. The project will be developed in coordination with the State Agency for Strategic Projects and the University of Quintana Roo, ensuring that social and community impact is a priority.
This investment will generate more than 1,000 jobs between 2025 and 2027, and nearly 1,000 direct jobs to operate the new tourist experience, translating efforts into shared prosperity.
A direct connection to the Limones station is also planned, facilitating access to the Mayan Train and promoting visits to destinations and experiences throughout the State, reinforcing the strategy in the new Era of Tourism in the Mexican Caribbean.
The presentation of the investment was attended by Governor Mara Lezama, the honorary president of DIF Estatal Verónica Lezama, the state secretary of Tourism Bernardo Cueto, and the general director of the Comprehensive Port Administration Vagner Elbiorn.
