Overseen by the programme’s Sustainability Advisor, Tina O’Dwyer, a leading sustainable tourism expert and impactful campaigner, the three-hour Summit will focus on the central theme of using travel as a force for good, coinciding with the programme’s overall theme, “TravelPower”.
As moderator, Tina will open the Summit by delving into the ways we can leverage travel to support resilient communities, flourishing economies and thriving ecosystems, while exploring the drivers of regenerative tourism.
Pioneering global thought leader Anna Pollock will kick off with a keynote address titled Unlocking the Regenerative Tourism Paradigm (13.45-14.15) that will include references to successful case studies and actionable strategies, followed by an engaging exploration of transformational tourism campaigns by founder of global sustainable tourism organisation The Travel Foundation and Place Generation, Elke Dens (14.15-14.40).
Next, From Policy to Practice: Ireland’s Real-World Experience with Regenerative Tourism Placemaking (14.40-15.05) will take a practical look at how to apply regenerative tourism principles to balance economic growth with environmental and social restoration, led by Fáilte Ireland’s Director of Product Development, Orla Carroll.
Later, Debbie Clarke, Director of Regenerative Development at The Centre for Good Travel and host of The Good Awaits Podcast in New Zealand, will share how
to translate the principles of regeneration into tangible experiences and itineraries, together with panelist Asta Sigurjonsdottir, CEO of the Iceland Tourism Cluster.
Rob Holmes, Founder and Chief Strategist at GLP Films, and Anne Kawalerski, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Bloomberg Media Group, will dive into how to communicate your sustainability initiatives effectively, including tried-and-true models for success.
The Summit will close with a talk led by Tina on The Future of Regenerative Tourism (16.45-17.00), merging the learnings and practical takeaways from the day to inspire a tourism model that revitalizes, nourishes and restores.
