The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that the income from foreign currency from international visitors was 22,478 million dollars, in the period January-August 2024, 6.6 percent more than that recorded in the same period in 2023.
Based on the results of the International Travelers Survey, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that in the first eight months of the year the arrival of 29 million international tourists was recorded, which represents an increase of 5.5 percent compared to 2023.
He noted that the average expenditure on inbound tourism by air also showed an increase, reaching 1,178.3 dollars, 2.4 percent higher than that recorded in January-July 2023.
Rodríguez Zamora recalled that according to expectations, the arrival of 45 million 242 thousand international tourists is estimated in 2024, a figure 7.3% higher than that recorded in 2023, with an economic impact of 33 thousand 450 million dollars from international visitors, 36.1 percent more than in 2019 and 8.6 percent higher than that recorded in 2023.
Likewise, the average expenditure on inbound tourism by air is expected to be 1,151 dollars, 14.9 and 2.2 percent more than what was recorded in 2019 and 2023, respectively.
Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora emphasized the importance of continuing to promote community tourism, as it represents a way to generate jobs and direct income, for the benefit of local populations, as instructed by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
