Arajet carries out reforestation campaign in Laguna Redonda, Dominican Republic

The Dominican low-cost airline, as part of its social responsibility actions, planted more than 500 mangroves in the protected area of ​​Laguna Redonda located in Miches, to support the National Reforestation Plan promoted by the Ministry of the Environment

Ann Sanchez, Vice President of Culture and Human Resources at Arajet, highlighted the Dominican flagship airline's commitment to promoting the conservation and care of the country's natural resources.

“October being the month of reforestation, Arajet and its volunteers wanted to offer their support and a helping hand to the Ministry of the Environment to continue promoting the culture of reforestation for the benefit of the national forest,” said Sánchez.  

Through these initiatives, Arajet reaffirms its commitment to social sustainability and environmental protection, where its aircraft also bear the names of protected areas of the Dominican Republic, under the strategy of raising, promoting and creating awareness about the importance of their preservation and boosting domestic tourism in the country and promoting it internationally.

Carlos De La Rosa, provincial representative of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in El Seibo, thanked the initiative and expressed that this type of social commitment is of vital importance to guarantee the sustainability of the area through its preservation and care.

Arajet volunteers received instructions and advice for the successful planting of more than 500 mangroves for reforestation of the area.

Redonda Lagoon is included in the Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance for its value for the conservation of biodiversity and for sustaining human life. It has an area of ​​5 km² with a depth of approximately 2.1 meters; it is the only lagoon that is connected to the sea through the Celedonio channel, located in the province of El Seibo.

The airline has a fleet of 10 aircraft named after protected areas in the country: Pico Duarte, Los Tres Ojos, Jaragua, Ojos Indígenas, Bahía de las Águilas, Isla Saona, Valle Nuevo, Lago Enriquillo, Laguna Redonda and Los Haitises, to promote the importance of these ecosystems at a national and international level.
