The city of Buenos Aires is preparing for a cruise season that will see higher numbers. According to data shared by the Entur Tourism Observatory, more than 479 thousand passengers will arrive at the terminal between November 2024 and April 2025.
"The fact that cruise passengers continue to choose the city of Buenos Aires is a source of pride, but at the same time it is an incentive to continue working to have a tourist offer on par with the great cities of the world. It represents an opportunity to create a complete experience aimed at a type of tourist who spends few days in the destination compared to other segments," said Valentín Díaz Gilligan, president of the Tourism Board of the City of Buenos Aires.
It is worth noting that the 2024-2025 cruise season will be the best of the last 12 years in terms of the number of passengers, since the last season with higher numbers was in the period 2013-2014, when 407 thousand passengers arrived at the port in 159 calls.
Furthermore, 76% of the 125 port calls that will take place during the entire season will be concentrated between January and March, with the first month of the year being the period in which most ships arrive (30% of the total); and 27% of the ships that arrive during the entire season will spend at least one night in the City.
International tourism in the city
Between January and August 2024, 1,895,025 foreign visitors entered the City of Buenos Aires. These figures show an increase of 6.15% compared to the 1,785,207 who arrived during the same period last year; and are just 1.75% below the numbers for 2019, a year that marked a historic record for international tourism in the national capital.
Brazil is the main source market for international tourists to the City (523,388), followed by the United States (221,307), Uruguay (218,492), Chile (179,266) and Peru (97,427).
The City of Buenos Aires has more than 7,000 restaurants, 287 theaters, 380 bookstores, and 150 museums. The traditional places stand out, but there is also another side to the City that continues to be a find even for local residents, such as specialty cafes, milonga schools, independent theaters, speakeasies, and rooftops.
