Colombia's international image is going through a very good moment, which has increased the confidence of travelers when choosing the biodiversity, beaches, gastronomy and culture of our country for their next trips. In fact, the fact that COP 16 was held in Cali has allowed the world to learn about the potential and variety of ecosystems it has for tourists from abroad.
Thus, between January and September, Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica were the countries of origin that grew the most in the number of visitors to Colombia, with increases of 56%, 53% and 38% respectively, compared to the same months last year. However, those that accounted for the largest share were the United States, with 28.7%; Mexico, with 8.5% and Ecuador, with 7.9%.
“The tourism sector, together with the National Government, has done a great job in making the attractions of our destinations abroad visible. This has strengthened our identity, biodiversity, and culture, and in turn has fostered interest in improving infrastructure conditions to provide better experiences for visitors,” explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
It should be noted that, although Antioquia, San Andrés, and Bogotá, with 60%, 30%, and 29%, were the destinations with the greatest growth in the arrival of travelers from abroad between January and September 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, the emerging destinations that increased the most in international tourists were Guaviare, Caquetá, and Amazonas.
“Through tourism, we promote cultural understanding, generate foreign exchange income, and stimulate the development of our economies. For this reason, from ANATO and with our Travel Agencies, we have been generating actions, such as Familiarization Trips, with which we seek to strengthen the offer of our product and service providers, to open the doors to other destinations, which do not have great tourist potential, but are worth discovering," said the union leader.
