This event, organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the National Secretariat of Tourism of Paraguay (SENATUR), brought together regional leaders to promote discussion on women’s empowerment in the tourism industry.
Duncombe participated in several sessions, including the High-Level Panel entitled “Female Leadership in Tourism: Highlighting Achievements and Recognizing Challenges for Women Leaders in the Tourism Sector.” Throughout these sessions, the achievements of women in leadership roles were highlighted and the barriers they face in moving up the career ladder in the tourism industry were addressed.
The conference agenda also covered key topics such as the entrepreneurial role of women in tourism and opportunities for micro, small and medium-sized tourism enterprises (MSMEs) in the global marketplace. These discussions are essential to address economic empowerment, access to finance, training and leadership opportunities for women in the tourism sector.
“Empowering women across the region is critical to unlocking the true potential of our tourism sector and ensuring its long-term sustainability,” said Duncombe. “This conference provides a platform to address these obstacles and promote meaningful change, ensuring that women play a greater role in shaping the future of tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
Duncombe’s participation not only highlights The Bahamas’ leadership in promoting inclusive tourism practices, but also reinforces its commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for women at all levels of the industry, both regionally and globally.
