In this context, Travel2latam spoke with Sergio E. González Rubiera, President of AMATUR, the Mexican Association of Inbound Tourism Agencies.

How has been the experience of actively participating in the Cancun Travel Mart?

It is a very serious business fair and platform. I am very pleased because unlike other tourism fairs and other years, I see a lot of seriousness and formality in the appointments and in the people. That must be acknowledged by the Hotel Association, which has been doing this very successfully for 36 years and there are more and more participants from more countries.

The experience has been very positive, there has been a good business environment and the people I have spoken to are very happy and satisfied. We participate as an association, we do not do business with anyone, but rather we try to set the table for our members to do business. We represent all the most important DMCs in the destination and some allied members, among which are very important companies such as Xcaret or the Dolphinariums.

In addition, the other way we have been involved in this event for many years is that we are the official transportation providers. We provide ground transportation for all delegates; we meet them at the airport, take them to their hotels, to cocktail parties and back, to social events, and return them to the airport on the last day. We do this as a courtesy and it is something that is greatly appreciated by the Hotel Association.

We have people who speak languages, good vehicles, good, recent model units, and people are very happy with our service. I would say that we are the most important and largest association of incoming tourism agencies in the country. We have a presence in Cancun, Cozumel, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, and next year we expect to eventually open a branch in Mexico City, perhaps in the State of Chiapas, which has a lot of incoming agencies.

On the other hand, this year we have been approached by companies that want to join our association because they have heard and seen what we do. We are very dynamic, this year we are celebrating 48 years of existence in the destination with an annual convention on Saturday, October 26.

What are the characteristics of this event?

At the morning technical event there are presentations, one by each of the representatives of the destinations we have. That is, someone speaks on behalf of Cozumel about the general problems that the destination has, and someone from Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta also speaks.

Then, I will close on behalf of the members by talking about the challenges and opportunities that I see in tourism for 2025 and then the Secretary of Tourism will speak. I understand that the Undersecretary of Tourism is also coming to give us a lecture on challenges and opportunities but from the government's perspective.

The Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council will be there, and its General Director, Andrés Martínez, will give us a conference and presentation on market intelligence. We will close at 1:00 p.m. and at night we will meet here in this same hotel for a big dinner-dance, with more than 300 confirmed attendees, with a great orchestra. We will give away trips and surprises.
