At the inauguration of Adventure Travel México (ATMEX) 2024, the first national tourism fair that has historically been held in Chetumal, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa stated that it is an event that will promote adventure and nature activities in the south of Quintana Roo, while having the capacity to generate new and more jobs, and shared prosperity will reach the Mayan communities.
“I already said that the inhabitants of the Mayan communities should be the protagonists of these new stories and pleasant experiences, and that shared prosperity should truly spread to those citizens who have wonderful stories,” said the governor of Quintana Roo.
In the presence of the General Director of Promotion and International Affairs of SECTUR, Emanuel Román Ernest Rey, and the General Coordinator of Adventure Travel Mexico, Antonio del Rosal Stanford, Governor Mara Lezama pointed out that talking about nature and adventure tourism is not only about taking tourists to these magical and wonderful places that exist. “Some people think that this is enough, but tourism has much deeper purposes that make it worthy of all our support, and one of them is to generate employment, commercial activities with people, between communities that are often much more remote and, therefore, much poorer,” she reported.
Mara Lezama said that in order to settle this historic debt with the Mayan people, work is being done, through the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, with a new model of sustainable and sustainable tourism development, in a New Era of Tourism, precisely to bring the cultural, historical and artisanal wealth of the Mayan communities to the eyes of the world.
He invited the participants in this Adventure Travel Mexico to fall in love with the south of Quintana Roo, but always trying to ensure that tourism success reaches and is reflected in rural communities.
This second edition of Adventure Travel México (ATMEX) 2024 is a business and strategic relations event focused on the regeneration and strengthening of the Adventure and Nature Tourism industry, a vital sector for the local and national economy.
At the opening ceremony, the General Director of Promotion and International Affairs of SECTUR, Emanuel Román Ernest Rey, highlighted that Quintana Roo, as one of the states that make up the Mayan World, has great potential and a great opportunity to generate multi-destination products.
For this reason, he reported that SECTUR is working on the consolidation of the Mayan World, which gives identity as a country and as a region. “We will work so that this wealth is not only visible, but that it becomes a driver of sustainable development that benefits local communities. With this vision, we continue to promote responsible tourism,” he said.
The general coordinator of Adventure Travel Mexico, Antonio del Rosal Stanford, highlighted that the decision to hold two editions of ATMEX, one in Michoacán and another in Chetumal, highlights the commitment to diversify and enrich the country's tourism offering, while generating strategic alliances between buyers, suppliers and specialized media.
In turn, the State Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto, said that “the diversification strategy promoted by Governor Mara Lezama not only seeks to attract more visitors, but also to preserve and protect the natural environment that surrounds us, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty that we have today.”
The academic program during ATMEX 2024 focuses on the professionalization of the industry, sharing the latest trends, success stories and best practices both nationally and internationally. This approach is crucial to continue strengthening a sector that not only contributes to the economy, but also promotes the conservation of our natural and cultural resources.
