A Region of Tourist Diversity
The Coimbra region, made up of 19 municipalities, offers a diversity of attractions that range from coastal beaches to the mountainous landscapes of the interior. According to Custódio, this territory, with the city of Coimbra as its capital, allows visitors to experience a range of unique activities. “We have beautiful beaches on the coast and, in the interior, nature with ideal routes for those looking for contact with the natural environment,” he explains.
The tourism infrastructure includes historic hotels in Coimbra, as well as a wide range of rural accommodation that connects visitors with the local environment and promotes cultural and environmental preservation.
Technology to Facilitate Tourism
Custódio emphasized the region’s commitment to integrating technology into tourism. “Our intermunicipal community works to bring together all tourist information in a single click. At Festuris, we are publishing QR codes that direct visitors to our lodging, gastronomy and attractions,” said the president. This system allows tourists to explore all the region’s options with ease, using only a smartphone.
Sustainability as a Priority
Another strong point mentioned by Custódio was the commitment to sustainability. According to him, the Coimbra region continually invests in sustainable initiatives, including ecological trails near rivers and routes that highlight renewable energy sources, such as wind, water and solar energy. “We want to show visitors that our concern goes beyond conventional tourism. We have a strong environmental protection policy that aims to make our attractions environmentally friendly,” said Custódio.
Gastronomic Richness and Excellent Wines
Gastronomy is another important attraction in the region, which features renowned Bairrada wines and traditional dishes. Highlights include Bairrada-style suckling pig and chanfana, typical dishes that have been preserved over the years. “In addition to high-quality wines, the region offers authentic cuisine that appeals to all tastes and budgets, from fresh fish from the coast to meats and traditional dishes from the interior,” added Custódio.
With a diverse offering and a commitment to sustainability, Pampilhosa da Serra and the Coimbra region seek to establish themselves as a complete destination, combining tradition and modernity to attract more and more tourists.
