“It is an excellent opportunity for the country. In this second half of the year, we have hosted COP 16 and now the Executive Council of UN Tourism, events of great relevance for the travel industry, since it is here where the current state of tourism in the different nations is evaluated and actions and strategies for its development and strengthening are built in an articulated manner,” explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
These spaces for dialogue show the commitment and dedication that the different governments of the world have had regarding tourism, because although the challenges they have had to face are known, the projects and success stories they have achieved are also highlighted; and of course, by taking place this year in Colombia, it is also the possibility of showing what we have achieved as a country and the potential that remains to be explored.
“ANATO has been an affiliate member of UN Tourism since 2009, holding the regional vice presidency on several occasions, which has allowed us to contribute to economic growth, inclusive progress and the sustainability of the sector worldwide,” said the union leader.
Within the framework of the Executive Council of UN Tourism, ANATO was part of the evaluation committee of the Community Tourism Innovation Challenge in Colombia, which sought to support projects that included sustainable tourism practices for the benefit of local communities and in support of the achievement of the Development Goals.
