Organized by the Central American Tourism Promotion Agency (CATA) and the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT), it takes place one day after Aviation Day – Guatemala, led by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
This forum, a pioneer in its category, sets up an unprecedented roundtable discussion focused on accessibility and facilitation for passenger air transport in Central America. With the participation of more than 20 key industry players, the event seeks to promote a collaborative approach to optimize fundamental elements such as airfares, airport taxes and immigration regulations.
Air connectivity is positioned as an essential pillar for the economic, social and tourist growth of the isthmus. With 30 international airports moving more than 31 million passengers annually and the arrival of 25.4 million visitors in 2023, Central America is a strategic point in global transportation. However, there are still significant challenges to consolidate the region as a more competitive and accessible destination.
The forum, which brings together representatives of regional organizations, the main airlines operating in the region, government authorities and tourism companies, seeks to define concrete strategies to boost the competitiveness of air traffic and facilitate intraregional and international tourism, while strengthening trade, investment and mobility.
The event will feature keynote speakers from Boris Iraheta, Secretary General of CATA; Peter Cerdá, Regional Vice President of IATA; and Harris Whitbeck, Director General of INGUAT. With this initiative, CATA and INGUAT are leading a historic effort to build a more integrated, prosperous and prepared Central America to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of an ever-evolving air sector, constituting the beginning of a transformative change for the region.
