In this context, Travel2latam spoke with Reynaldo Dzib, General Manager of Cancún Travel Group.
What are your goals for coming here to present your work at the IBTM?
One of the main objectives is the distribution of the products we are handling. We had discussed the launch of all the circuits with guaranteed departures that we have for the Mayan World and I think that this is the ideal market for that. Proof of this are the events we have had prior to the IBTM, where we managed to attract three wholesalers who really like the Mayan World product.
In which region of the Mexican Caribbean have you noticed the most interest?
Now, for example, there is a lot of attraction for the Riviera Maya because it is a natural market for Spain, but I am seeing a great opportunity to introduce new markets such as Bacalar, the south of the state of Quintana Roo, and to promote the entire Yucatan peninsula with all the products we have such as sun, beach, jungle and archaeological sites.
This is a global event, I imagine that you have not only had meetings with Spanish businessmen…
The truth is that this is the first time I have come to this event and I am surprised by the diversity of buyers. Where we have had a high impact so far is in the Turkish market.
We are closing the year. What is your vision of what you have experienced and what feeling does 2024 leave you with?
It has been a challenging year with many changes due to various situations. First we had the Olympic Games, which damaged our image on the world tourism stage, and then the various presidential elections in both the US and Mexico, which was a period of uncertainty.
We are more optimistic about 2025 because the tourism, economic and political markets should stabilise, and it will be time to step on the accelerator in terms of tourism promotion.
The Mexican Caribbean continues to add hotels and infrastructure. Right?
Yes, that is one of the great advantages of the Mexican Caribbean. The return on investment is very short, and hotel investors are looking for places to invest that are much better as the shorter the return on investment, and the Mexican Caribbean is offering that. Places like Holbox, for example, already have an infrastructure in place.
Bacalar is an amazing place right now, with a lot of new rooms, which are also continuing to be added around the Mexican Caribbean. There will be new hotels in Mahahual and Xcalak, and all those places that were not previously known are now known and have hotel investments.
Furthermore, when the operation of the Maya Train is consolidated, with all the facilities for the operators, it will undoubtedly be a great product, especially with the facilities and access that are being created for the archaeological sites.
