Arajet, the Caribbean's low-cost airline, officially inaugurated its operations from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) in an event headed by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, as well as representatives of the airline and the airport, to which they began their flights on October 27, and with which they continue.
Victor Pacheco, CEO and Founder of Arajet, indicated that the airline continues to expand its network of destinations and connect this important tourist hub with the American continent from Canada to the Southern Cone. In addition, he reported that this month is doubly special because Arajet surpassed one million passengers flown in 2024 (including transit passengers), being the first time in history that a Dominican airline reaches this figure in one year.
“For Arajet, it is our commitment to boost the arrival of tourists to the country by offering them more opportunities to visit the Dominican Republic at the lowest prices on the market through our robust network of destinations and the more than 200 connection combinations that we currently have,” said Pacheco, who added that the main objective is “to turn the Dominican Republic into the new air hub of the continent.”
“Today we celebrate a great step in the development of tourism and air connectivity in the Dominican Republic, with the arrival of Arajet at Punta Cana Airport; an airline that, since its inception, has demonstrated a firm commitment to quality, efficiency and the expansion of opportunities for our nation,” said Frank Elías Rainieri, CEO of the Puntacana Group.
“We deeply appreciate Arajet’s trust in our infrastructure, in the capacity of the Punta Cana team and in the potential of our nation. This is only the beginning of a long and successful collaboration, and we assure them that they will find in us a committed ally to continue growing and reaching new goals,” Rainieri emphasized.
“Through this hub in Punta Cana, Arajet is creating a direct economic impact in our region. The operation of this airline will contribute significantly to the generation of jobs, both at the airport and in various associated areas. The thousands of tourists and business travelers who will arrive through Arajet will not only enjoy our sun and beaches, but will also boost the economy of Punta Cana and its surroundings,” said Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Airside Operations at Punta Cana Airport.
“This type of investment and growth in connectivity not only reinforces Punta Cana's position as one of the most important tourist destinations in the Caribbean, but also opens up new opportunities for local businesses, favoring the growth of small and medium-sized companies and stimulating domestic tourism. This strategic alliance responds to our mission of continuing to be the airport with the highest air traffic in the Dominican Republic, receiving 68% of the tourists who arrive in our country,” emphasized Giovanni Rainieri.
Punta Cana Airport has maintained its commitment to innovation, which has allowed it to be one of the best airports in Latin America, with constant growth, currently handling 68% of the country's tourist air traffic, connecting with 75 cities in 34 countries through 58 airlines and mobilizing more than 9 million passengers per year.
They explained that Punta Cana Airport becomes Arajet's third destination in the Dominican Republic and they will be flying to and from Bogotá, Cartagena and Medellín in Colombia; Cancún and Mexico City in Mexico; Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador; Toronto and Montreal in Canada; Kingston, Jamaica; Lima, Peru; Sao Paulo, Brazil and Santiago de Chile.
Arajet flights from Las Américas International Airport and from Cibao International Airport are maintained to continue offering a memorable experience with the highest international standards.
Arajet is currently the Dominican airline that has registered the most passenger traffic, surpassing the barrier of 100 thousand passengers for several consecutive months, thus achieving a milestone in the country's commercial aviation.
