With this, Ecuador now has six locations that are part of this recognition of the Best Tourist Towns in the world.
This award recognizes rural destinations and towns committed to innovation and economic, social and environmental sustainability, where tourism promotes development and new job opportunities, and is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
For this recognition, 260 applications were received from towns in more than 60 UN Tourism Member States, of which a total of 55 localities received recognition as Best Tourism Villages. Another 20 towns were chosen to join the Upgrade Program, in which we already have the community of El Cisne (Loja), from 2023.
The Minister of Tourism, Mateo Estrella, welcomed this new declaration that once again places the country's rural localities before the eyes of the world, which translates into an important promotion of our destinations and a boost to sustainable tourism and community development.
