Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora reported that during the winter holiday period, which will run from December 19, 2024 to January 8, 2025, an economic spillover from tourism consumption of 263 thousand 612 million pesos is expected.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that this represents an increase of 6.2 percent more than what was recorded in the same holiday period in 2023.
He added that the arrival of 8.7 million tourists staying in hotels is expected, 2.1 percent more than what was recorded in 2023; of which 6.5 million will be domestic and 2.2 million will be international, 74.7 percent and 25.3 percent, respectively.
Rodríguez Zamora said that an economic impact of 20,821 million pesos is expected for lodging, 7.5 percent more than in the winter vacation period of the previous year.
He said that, according to expectations, hotel occupancy is projected to reach 59.3 percent, an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to the 58.1% recorded during the same period in 2023.
In the selected centers, an occupancy of 88.6% is forecast in Cancun; 88.0% in Nuevo Nayarit; 87.0% in Riviera Maya; 82.3% in Puerto Vallarta; 80.8% in Los Cabos; 79.0% in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo; 74.1% in Mazatlan; 62.9% in Puebla; 58.5% in Merida; 57.5% in Campeche; 54.9% in Xalapa; and 50.2% in Queretaro.
