Through its partnership program and the Miles Bank, so far in 2024, Avianca has been able to contribute to the physical and psychosocial well-being of more than 4,900 children and adolescents in Latin America.
The airline has been working hand in hand with different allies such as SOS Children's Villages, Make A Wish, and the Operation Smile Foundation (Colombia and Ecuador), among others, which promote and support the development of children and adolescents in vulnerable situations or with critical illnesses. This is done through its Mile Bank program, which directly supports initiatives such as medical brigades, humanitarian assistance and the fulfillment of dreams.
As the main tool of its management, the Avianca and LifeMiles Miles Bank is a mechanism created to mobilize health professionals, psychologists, educators, social workers, among others, who are part of the company's partner organizations and who provide their services to communities located in hard-to-reach areas. Likewise, through the Miles Bank, Avianca offers LifeMiles members the opportunity to contribute to social and environmental causes by donating from one mile onwards.
"A significant part of our efforts on the social front are focused on children. We have built alliances with high-level foundations that address the most basic needs of vulnerable communities and, in them, especially children. Our planes and our miles are and will continue to be at their service and that of our allies," said Felipe Andrés Gómez Vivas, Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Avianca.
On the other hand, in the framework of World Children's Day, through an activation in the room, 16,566 miles were collected, the result of voluntary donations from Lifemiles and Avianca members.
Avianca and SOS Children's Villages, an alliance for Colombian children
As one of its main allies for children, together with SOS Children's Villages, Avianca has transferred professionals to different regions of the country, contributing to foster care programs for children and adolescents who were separated from their families because they faced a violation of their rights, as well as families at psychosocial risk to guarantee a safe environment for their children. Since 2018, this alliance has positively impacted the lives of more than 4,300 children and young people in vulnerable situations, taking a step towards guaranteeing rights for the youngest.
