On the evening of Tuesday, December 3, the Ministry of Tourism of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay brought together prominent figures from the world of entertainment, business and politics to launch its proposal for the 2025 summer season. Within the framework of Personalities of the Year, the emblematic gala of GENTE Magazine held at the Faena Art Center, Uruguay unveiled its distinguished offer of destinations and activities.
The event was chaired by Remo Monzeglio, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism, who reviewed the most important developments for foreign tourists. “The main news is that the decree that reduces the total VAT on food consumption and car rentals without drivers for non-resident tourists who pay with credit or debit cards issued abroad has already come into effect,” he explained.
It should be noted that the measure will be in force until April 30, 2025, so it will apply throughout the season. In addition, officials reminded that foreign tourists do not pay VAT on accommodation.
“For those who come by car, it is important to register online, so they can go through the tolls without any problems and pay them at the destination where they are going on vacation, whether it is Punta del Este, Rocha, among others,” added the Undersecretary.
For his part, Roque Baudean, National Director of Tourism, said: “For the Ministry of Tourism and for all of us who in some way work for the tourism sector, being alongside GENTE Magazine and particularly at the Personalities of the Year event, is being alongside those who love, enjoy, invest and choose Uruguay for their vacations.”
“In the assessment of the last five years of the Ministry of Tourism, it is key to highlight the impact of the pandemic, which deeply affected tourism, being one of the sectors most affected by the closure of borders and airports. Despite this, the resilience of the sector was remarkable, it never gave up, and with the effort of private operators, it managed to recover,” added Ignacio Curbelo, general director of the Secretariat of the Ministry of Tourism.
“An important achievement of this administration is the investment guide developed together with the UN, which is a powerful tool to show the world the advantages of investing in Uruguay. Investment in tourism is declared to be of national interest, offering attractive tax incentives for investors,” added Curbelo.
Finally, the official highlighted that “Uruguay has also been a pioneer in adhering to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, ensuring greater security for travellers. In addition, the establishment of the Observatory of Tourism Law for Latin America and the Caribbean in Montevideo, which will begin operating in January, represents a historic milestone. This observatory will attract the attention of the legal world to Uruguay and will improve tourism practices.”
In this way, Uruguay continues to stand out for the quality of its tourism services, which are doubling their commitment season after season. This time, the evolution is reflected both in terms of proposals and agenda, as well as in terms of investments and infrastructure.
