During his visit to Mexico, David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, said that he will seek out the government of our country to follow up on the plans to create a Multi-Destination with countries in the region.

"This is an issue that was discussed with the previous Secretary of Tourism (Miguel Torruco), it is an Agreement between Mexico, the Dominican Republic and other Latin American countries to promote multi-destination tourism, similar to what is done in Europe. This could include the creation of a joint fund for promotion," Collado said in an interview.

“To promote multi-destination, it is necessary to replicate what happens with Latinos and those of us who live in the Caribbean, who, if we go to Europe, when we visit Madrid we also go to Italy, that is, we do not make just one stop and that has to be the strategy in the Dominican Republic with Mexico and other countries, so that tourism continues to grow,” he explained to this media.

This is to promote package tours, and although there has been no contact with the new Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, "we are going to try to establish communication to take up the subject again," she said at the end of her presentation during the 3rd edition of the Tourism Roadshow in Mexico City.

To this end, he said, “a hub has been established in the Dominican Republic that not only facilitates the traffic of Dominicans to Mexico, but also connects passengers from other countries, such as Canada, Argentina and Brazil, thus increasing air traffic between the nations.”

The minister said that a multi-destination trip is presented as an opportunity given that “12 additional frequencies have been added to the existing routes between Mexico and the Dominican Republic, allowing for daily flights. This includes connections from Mexico City and Cancun to Santo Domingo and Punta Cana.”

It is worth noting that the proposal to create a Multi-Destination by the Dominican Republic has only been expressed in Puerto Rico, and this last week in Mexico. Although the countries of Central America have been working for years on the creation of a regional tourism identity.

In 2022, the Central American Tourism Promotion Agency (CATA) launched the multi-destination product catalogue with the tourism fusion of Central America and the Dominican Republic, a new tool for the promotion of a region that combines destinations from eight countries: Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic, in the heart of the Americas.

This is the first time that the tourist offer of Central America and the Dominican Republic is combined through 5 packages and the participation of 13 tourism companies in the region, giving tourists the opportunity to mix the magic, culture and nature of the Central American isthmus with the impressive landscapes of one of the most important destinations in the Caribbean.

It was also in 2027 during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), in Madrid, where the multi-destination offer catalogue was launched for the first time with 51 different packages, and seven Central American countries participated.

Collado stressed that tourism in the Dominican Republic represents 15% of the GDP and generates more than one million jobs and suggested that the island's promotion strategy could be a model to follow to increase the presence of international tourists on the Puerto Rican island.

The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, presented in Mexico the new campaign: “Taste Paradise, Taste Dominican Republic” before 800 travel agents and tour operators who participated in Roadshow 71,

The minister assured that the end of 2024 is expected to be 11 million tourists to the island. “In November we received 881,499 visitors, the best month of November in terms of air arrivals. This brings us to a cumulative total of 10,005,800 visitors this year,” he explained.
