The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) added that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the above also means an increase of 31.2 percent in the entry of foreign currency from visitors registered during the first 10 months of 2019.
He said that, from January to October 2024, 69.8 million international visitors entered the country, registering a growth of 15.1 percent compared to 2023.
Likewise, it was reported that the income of foreign currency from international tourists in this period was 24 thousand 300.8 million dollars, 5.2 percent more compared to 2023 and 32.2 percent more than the same period in 2019.
Rodríguez Zamora stated that in the first 10 months of the year, the arrival of 36.3 million international tourists to the country was recorded, 7.2 percent more than what was captured in 2023.
On the other hand, he highlighted that, from January to October 2024, 18.7 million inbound tourists arrived by air, 1.8 percent and 17.3 percent more compared to the same period in 2023 and 2019, respectively.
He highlighted that the average expenditure of inbound tourists by air from January to October 2024 also reported an increase, reaching 1,161.6 dollars, 2.6 percent more compared to 2023 and 14.4 percent more than the average expenditure recorded in the same period in 2019.
Finally, he reported that, from January to October 2024, the balance of international visitors was 17,492.8 million dollars, that is, 0.6 percent more than what was recorded in 2023 and 44.9 percent more than the balance collected in the same period of 2019.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism commented that the increase in the arrival of foreign currency, added to the generation of jobs, which from January to September 2024 amounted to 4 million 902 thousand people employed in the tourism sector in Mexico, consolidate the role of tourism activity as a tool to encourage shared prosperity, bringing the benefit of this noble activity to all communities and all members of the production chain.
