Crooked Tree
Cross the bridge into the sleepy village of Crooked Tree in the Belize District, home to the popular Cashew Festival each May. From jams to wine and bread, this village produces a variety of cashew-based products and dishes. Originally founded as a logging community, this Creole village offers visitors a stroll through the Crooked Tree Museum and Cultural Heritage Center. Birdwatchers can also visit the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary to spot more than 50 species of birds, including the Jabiru stork, one of the largest in Central America.
Sarteneja
Head north to Belize to enjoy this quaint bayside village in the Corozal District. Sarteneja is a must-see destination, known for its pineapple farming and artisanal boat building. Sample the explosion of flavours from the various mestizo cuisines or relax on the beach while you wait for the vibrant sunset over the Caribbean Sea. There are many options to meet the Mayan community that celebrates its saint at the Succotz Festival in San José. Hopkins
Immerse yourself in Garinagu culture when you travel to Hopkins Village. Stroll along the beach or take a dip in the ocean waves. Located in the Stann Creek District, the village offers the perfect setting for an authentic experience during your trip. Learn to play the drum or cook traditional dishes on an eco-cultural tour. Keep in mind that it will be virtually impossible to visit Hopkins without shaking your hips to the lively beat of the Punta. Relax on the beautiful beaches of this popular tourist destination. Placencia is one of three towns on the Placencia Peninsula in the Stann Creek District. What began as a fishing community is now home to a mix of ethnicities from different parts of the world. Explore this pedestrian-friendly town while enjoying delicious, refreshing ice cream, playing mini-golf or swimming in crystal-clear waters. Shop for handmade souvenirs at the Placencia Street Art Festival or sample a variety of dishes at the Placencia Lobster Fest in July.
