The Abel Matutes Foundation gives a new boost to Palladium Cares, the Corporate Social Responsibility area of Palladium Hotel Group, part of Grupo Empresas Matutes.
Created in Ibiza and Formentera in the late 1970s for social purposes, the Abel Matutes Foundation has significantly expanded its scope of action and increased its budget tenfold with the aim of financing initiatives with greater scope and impact through Palladium Cares in both Europe and America. This significant increase in the budget also guarantees the continuity of its work in Ibiza and Formentera.
The role of the Abel Matutes Foundation has been essential in the first year of Palladium Cares and will continue to be so in the future development of initiatives around its three axes of action: Our People, Our Community and Our Planet. Through these, the group seeks to positively impact its employees and their families, and the local communities where it operates.
In addition, the Abel Matutes Foundation has launched a new website detailing its history, growth and projects, including a space dedicated to Palladium Cares.
INAUGURATION OF THE PALLADIUM TRAINING AND FAMILY CARE CENTER
CARES IN ISLA MUJERES, MEXICO
Last October, Palladium Cares celebrated the opening of the Family Training and Care Center on the mainland of Isla Mujeres, in Quintana Roo (Mexico), in collaboration with the Origen Foundation. This new space offers training courses in trades, human and economic development, as well as recreational and sports activities and psychological care. The center's professionals promote the development of transversal skills for the entire community, including families, children, youth, women and seniors, making it a meeting and coexistence point.
With this, Palladium Cares has seven centres managed in collaboration with local entities in three countries in the Americas: Jamaica, Brazil and Mexico. These projects reflect Palladium Hotel Group's commitment to the local communities in which it operates, offering accessible, relevant training aligned with the needs of the labour market in each region.
“4 CAUSES TO TAKE ACTION” LANDS IN AMERICA
The “4 Causes to Take Action” initiative, which promotes quarterly initiatives around childhood, social inequalities, care for the elderly and the planet, has expanded its reach beyond Europe, landing for the first time in the Dominican Republic.
During this time, more than 1,220 volunteers, employees of the hotel group, have participated in 130 social projects, with the help of 95 specialized social organizations, which has managed to impact more than 2,800 beneficiaries in Europe and the Dominican Republic. Thanks to this success,
Palladium Cares plans to roll out the initiative in all destinations where Palladium Hotel Group operates by 2025.
In addition, the group has launched social initiatives such as the “Euro per stay” programme, which allows guests to contribute directly to the essential work of various local organisations, or “Guest of the Month”, which offers free stays to families who benefit from the NGOs with which it collaborates.
ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT AND CIRCULARITY
The company's strong push for projects related to economic circularity is highlighted. An example of this is the agricultural centre promoted by Palladium Cares in Brazil, where innovative agricultural practices and composting techniques are being applied, which allow the proper management of waste generated in the hotel, for the cultivation of vegetables that are consumed there, generating employment and turning the space into a point of reference for sustainable production, which respects and preserves the natural beauty of the enclave.
The work being carried out in Ibiza and Tenerife to minimise food waste is also highlighted. In this case, through Cáritas and the Red Cross, organisations that are responsible for collecting surplus food in the hotels managed by the company, to then distribute it in the soup kitchens of both institutions.
Finally, it is worth highlighting Palladium Hotel Group's commitment to energy efficiency and reducing water consumption, for which investments have been made in equipment and the development of policies and operations that favour better management of these limited resources.
