The arrival of the first direct shipment from the port of Chancay to Shanghai today, December 18, marks a turning point in maritime trade between Peru and Asia. After a historic 23-day journey, bilateral relations are consolidated with one of the most dynamic markets in the world and reinforces the strategic actions of the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) from China and boost our exports to that market.

As part of its investment attraction strategy, PROMPERÚ has launched a broad campaign in China, highlighting the country's competitive advantages as a destination for FDI. According to the Financial Times' fDi Markets platform, China is the third largest source of FDI to Peru, accumulating more than USD 13 billion since 2003 and generating more than 19 thousand direct jobs through 28 Chinese companies.

The promotional video of the campaign highlights the advantages of the port of Chancay and the new Jorge Chávez international airport, to connect the country with global markets. Peru's economic stability, backed by 22 free trade agreements that give access to 58 international markets, reinforces the value proposition presented to potential investors towards sectors such as food industries, diverse manufacturing, textile industry, tourism and agribusiness.

Traditionally, Chinese investment in Peru has been concentrated in strategic sectors such as mining, logistics, manufacturing and renewable energy. However, PROMPERÚ seeks to diversify investment and trade in non-traditional products such as avocados, table grapes, blueberries, alpaca fiber, among others.

China Investment Roadshow

As part of this campaign, the “Investment Roadshow” will be held in Shanghai and Beijing from February 24 to 28, 2025, with key activities such as the seminar “Peru, Country of Investment Opportunities”, where our country will be presented as an attractive destination for global investment. This event will include meetings with Chinese companies interested in sectors such as foreign trade and tourism, and meetings with government representatives to strengthen bilateral economic ties.

PROMPERÚ seeks to consolidate Peru as a strategic partner for China by taking advantage of the sustainable competitive advantages that Peru offers in a global context of opportunities.
