Arajet, the Dominican low-cost airline, announced today its plans to enter the US market in the second quarter of 2025 with flights to and from the cities of New York, Miami and Puerto Rico.
Arajet has received approval from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) under the entry into force of the Open Skies agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States to bring these three key routes to the United States.
“This is an important milestone and we are very happy to officially launch our operations in the United States next year,” said Victor Pacheco, CEO and Founder of Arajet. “These routes will open up more options for traveling to the United States of America, a very important market for the Dominican Republic, and our low-cost flights will open up new opportunities to grow tourism and business.” He added, “We are looking forward to welcoming American travelers and their diaspora communities to the Dominican Republic and continuing to consolidate the country as a hub for the region that connects more than 16 countries in the Americas.”
Arajet has the highest passenger traffic of all Dominican airlines, exceeding one million passengers in 2024 and more than 100,000 passengers for several consecutive months.
This represents more than 7% of the total number of passengers flying to and from the Dominican Republic, highlighting the airline's growing presence in the country. The airline operates two hubs with connecting flights to 23 destinations, and since the opening of its second hub in Punta Cana last October, Arajet is projected to be the Dominican airline with the highest activity.
“With the entry into force today of Open Skies and the approval of Arajet’s routes to New York and Miami, we will continue to move forward,” said David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic. “This is a great victory and makes our vision of allowing all Dominican airlines to fly to more destinations and increase competitiveness with the most important market for the country a reality.”
The Open Skies Air Transport Agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States represents a major achievement in air connectivity, eliminating restrictions on flight routes and frequencies between the two countries. American tourists will soon be able to enjoy more affordable and direct routes to the DR, which will promote the country's economic growth.
Ticket sales are expected to begin once the airline receives final approval from the FAA. For more information, visit www.arajet.com.
