The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced that between January and November 2024, the arrival of 10.2 million foreign women by air to Mexico was recorded, which represented an increase of 2.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism commented that, according to information from the Migration Policy Unit-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), this represents 51.1% of the total number of foreigners arriving in Mexico by air.
Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that these figures reflect that Mexico is a vibrant country, a destination positioned worldwide that offers tranquility and freedom to female travelers. She added that women in our country travel with respect for their rights. Today, it is not only explorers and journalists who enjoy tourism, it is all of us, whether alone or with friends, there is even a specific segment to improve the experience of women.
The Secretary of Tourism explained that the arrival of Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum to the Presidency is driving a cultural change. She highlighted the public policy that the Government of Mexico has implemented so that women can have a life free of violence and exercise all their rights, including tourism.
She added that women's favorite places are beach destinations; Tulum is the destination where the highest percentage of tourists arriving are women with 59%, followed by Oaxaca with 53.8%, Cancun with 53.7% and Los Cabos with 53.4%.
On the other hand, she said that of the total number of foreign women who arrived in Mexico in the first 11 months of the year, 65% are American, 12% Canadian, 3% Colombian and the remaining 20% of other nationalities.
Rodríguez Zamora reiterated the importance of women's participation in all areas of tourism activity, since this sector can and should contribute to strengthening gender equality; she recalled that it is time for women and for transformation.
