With the firm purpose of strengthening connectivity between Florida and Latin America, Avianca announced its intention to begin operating new routes that will connect Fort Lauderdale with Medellín and Managua**; Miami with San José and Guatemala City; and Tampa, as a new destination that will connect directly with Bogotá.

With these operations proposed for 2025, Avianca will begin to operate 16 direct routes from Florida to Latin America, consolidating itself as one of the operators with the most robust offering to connect the region.

“Florida has historically been a key point for connecting with Latin America, so it is essential for us to help more families reunite, boost tourism and promote business. So far in 2024, we have transported more than four million travelers on more than 27,000 flights to and from the United States. So, these new routes respond to the needs of our customers and represent an opportunity for them to fly directly to more destinations in both regions where we already have a strong presence,” said Frederico Pedreira, CEO of Avianca.

The new routes* scheduled to launch during 2025 are:
Bogotá - Tampa
Medellín - Fort Lauderdale
San José - Miami
Guatemala City - Miami
San Salvador - Managua - Fort Lauderdale**

Tampa, a new destination to connect travelers
Tampa is one of the main cities in Florida, and this historic connection that Avianca seeks to operate for the first time will give travelers from both routes more opportunities to travel directly. Travelers in Tampa will be able to connect via Bogotá, with more than 75 destinations in more than 25 countries in America and Europe. Likewise, with 25 national destinations in Colombia, having the opportunity to connect with all regions of that country and conveniently enjoy cities such as Medellín, Cartagena, Cali, Quibdó, San Andrés, Leticia, among others.

“The significance of Avianca’s new Tampa-Bogota route is enormous, as it represents TPA’s first connection to Latin America in nearly 50 years and fills a long-awaited need for nonstop service to South America,” said Joe Lopano, CEO of TPA. “We expect this flight to be very popular with both business travelers and those visiting loved ones, as well as adding an exciting and vibrant destination to our route map. We look forward to celebrating the launch of this service with Avianca at a future date.”

For her part, Carmen Caballero, president of ProColombia, said: “This new direct flight between Tampa Bay and Bogotá not only strengthens connectivity between Colombia and the United States, our main tourist-issuing market, but also represents an important step in the growth of our offering in Florida. This route becomes the fourth city with which we connect directly in the state, in addition to Miami, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Together with Avianca, we continue working to consolidate Colombia as a world-class destination, promoting tourism and cultural and commercial exchange with this strategic market.”

Avianca will close 2024 with a network of 165 routes in more than 25 countries and 8 new destinations, which reaffirms its commitment to continue connecting more people, promoting the development of new routes and generating a positive impact in the communities where it operates.
