With the opening of the new direct Avianca route between Medellín and Sao Paulo, which began operations on December 3, the Science, Technology and Innovation District takes a crucial step in consolidating its position as a leading destination in Latin America for tourism and business. This connection represents much more than an air bridge; it is an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between two strategic and culturally close markets.

According to data from the Tourist Information System – SIT – in the last 8 years 51,807 people from Brazil have entered the city, which shows a strong trend of visitors from the country of Rio, who see Medellín as a destination with attractive points such as entertainment, gastronomy, shopping and nightlife.

The Brazilian market is key for Medellín due to its tourism potential, as Brazil is the country with the largest population and economy in Latin America, and one of the most important tourism-generating markets for the region. Every year, millions of Brazilians seek international destinations that offer cultural, entertainment, gastronomic and emotional experiences.

Likewise, Brazilian travelers have high purchasing power and seek quality experiences, which can generate a significant economic impact on the different transversal sectors of the tourism ecosystem. In addition, this air connection will facilitate the increase of foreign investment and bilateral trade.

What the Science, Technology and Innovation District expects with this new route is a 20% growth in tourism from Brazil in the next year. This will not only benefit Medellín, but also the nearby regions, which complement the offer with experiences in nature, culture and adventure.

In addition, direct connectivity with São Paulo opens doors to attract more corporate events, conferences and international fairs, aligned with Medellín's positioning as a leading destination in the meetings industry (MICE).

With this new route, Medellín and Antioquia extend their destination offering to Brazilian travelers so they can discover a city that flourishes with innovation, culture and hospitality.
