The Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERÚ) highlighted the tourism potential of the recent “Agreement between Peru and South Korea on Air Services between their Territories and beyond them”, signed by the governments of both countries and which came into force on December 13. This document opens the door to future direct air connections between both countries, consolidating bilateral ties and creating new opportunities to strengthen the flow of South Korean tourists to Peru.

The Korean market's interest in Peru has grown exponentially in recent years. In 2023, 12,200 South Korean tourists arrived in the country, while in 2024 this figure has already been widely exceeded: until October, 14,020 tourists from South Korea visited our country, representing an increase of 64% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The agreement stipulates that airlines designated by the governments of Peru and Korea will be able to operate regular international flights from any city in Peru to any destination in South Korea, and vice versa. PROMPERÚ highlighted that a possible direct route between Lima and Seoul would considerably shorten travel times, making it easier for more Korean tourists to enjoy Peru's varied tourist attractions.

From the majesty of our Andes to the biodiversity of the Amazon and the cultural richness of our communities, Peru is positioning itself as a unique destination in the Asian region. In addition, this new link will boost growing segments such as luxury, sustainable and experiential tourism, which are gaining popularity in these markets.

With this agreement as a framework, PROMPERÚ reaffirms its commitment to continue implementing specific strategies for the Asian market, combining innovative and diversified approaches, from digital actions to initiatives aimed at the commercial sector. With this, it seeks to strengthen Peru's presence in South Korea and promote the country's wide and varied tourist offer.
