According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the “Sports Tourism” sector represents approximately 10% of global tourism and generates more than US$700 billion annually. It is also projected to grow annually by 17.5% between 2023 and 2030, which demonstrates the potential of this industry.
This projection is confirmed by the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism, since XX% of tourists who visit the country do so precisely to practice all kinds of sports. Its offer ranges from exclusive golf courses to exciting surfing experiences in the waves of the Caribbean.
1. Golf: World-class courses
Golf is one of the main sporting attractions in the country, with more than 25 courses designed by world-renowned architects such as Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus. Places such as Casa de Campo in La Romana, Punta Espada in Cap Cana and Playa Grande in Rio San Juan offer world-class golf experiences with stunning views of the Caribbean Sea.
