This award recognized the outstanding media outlets, content generators and tour operators that, throughout 2024, contributed to positioning Central America as a key tourist destination for Spanish travelers.
Among the day's award winners, Jesús Clemente Rubio, from Radio Onda Madrid, received the CATA Award for Best Digital Travel Content for his report "El Enfoque de Ida y Vuelta 59: El grito de Nicaragua." This award highlights the work of bloggers and influencers who, with their creativity and dedication, have brought the wonders of the region to international audiences.
In the category of Best Travel Report of the Year – Printed or Digital Newspapers and Supplements, Elena Ortega, from Viajar magazine, was awarded for her article “Belize, the Central American destination that everyone wants to visit before the end of 2024”, highlighting the importance of the region as an emerging tourist destination. In addition, David Bigorra, from Movistar Plus + & Q Travel, was recognized for his report “Essential guide to El Salvador”, in the category of Best Travel Report of the Year – Magazines and Supplements.
The awards also included a Special Recognition for Rafael Pola, from El País, for his outstanding work in publishing specialized articles on multi-destination tourism in Central America, as well as for Paul Monzón, from El Periodista, for his consistency in disseminating news about the tourism industry in the region.
In the field of wholesale tour operators, CATA recognized Tourmundial as a Top Seller of Experiences in Central America, and Julia Travel as a 2024 Outstanding Tour Operator for its work in promoting unique experiences in the region. In addition, FVV Fly for Vacations was awarded as a 2024 Distinguished Tour Operator for its commitment to marketing Central American destinations.
Distinctions were also awarded to Avianca as Strategic Allied Airline 2024, for its efforts in strengthening air connections with Central America, and to Barceló as Strategic Allied Hotel, for its contribution to the development of tourism in the region.
Finally, the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV) received the CATA Recognition for Strategic Ally for the Marketing of Multi-Destination, standing out for its collaboration in the joint promotion of Central America and the Dominican Republic as a multi-destination tourist destination. With these awards, CATA reaffirms its commitment to the promotion and development of tourism in Central America, recognizing those professionals and companies that have played a fundamental role in consolidating the region as a preferred destination for Spanish travelers.
The event was attended by Anasha Campbell, Minister of Tourism of Nicaragua; Boris Iraheta, Secretary General of CATA; Yadira Gómez, Minister of Tourism of Honduras; Gloria de León, Minister of Tourism of Panama; Harris Withbeck, Minister of Tourism of Guatemala; Arelis Rodríguez, Cultural Officer of the Dominican Republic in Spain; Edwin Guerra, Economic Counselor of the Embassy of El Salvador in Spain, as well as representatives of the Federation of Tourism Chambers of Central America (FEDECATUR).
