On Friday, January 24, within the framework of FITUR 2025, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), UN Tourism, and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) signed a joint collaboration alliance for the preparation of the Costa Rica Tourism Investment Guide.

As part of the agreement, the ICT assumes the responsibility of collecting and delivering the pertinent information for the development of said guide, which will comply with the standards of both UN Tourism and CAF. The Guide will be prepared during the period 2025 on a mutually agreed date.

According to the agreement, “joint work will be the best way to achieve the goal of fair and sustainable growth for our region; a thriving tourism that offers quality destinations and empowers local communities as a valuable tool for this objective.”

William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism, expressed from Madrid, Spain, the significance of this agreement. “This guide will be another tool that will be extremely useful and will serve to attract foreign investment to Costa Rica in the field of tourism, by working together with PROCOMER.”

Tripartite agreement for tourism investment

This agreement was signed by the ICT, UN Tourism, and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) in pursuit of common goals toward more sustainable tourism.

The ICT, through its National Tourism Plan and the Essential Costa Rica country brand, demonstrated that the international perception of our country is characterized by a symbiosis between the natural and the human, recognizing the magnificence of its nature, our people, hospitality to visitors, and the level of human well-being, managing to consolidate the tourism sector as a fundamental axis for the socioeconomic and environmental development of the country.

UN Tourism is the United Nations agency responsible for promoting responsible, sustainable, and accessible tourism for all, and is committed to the development of tourism through investment, innovation, and sustainability.

CAF, for its part, has among its objectives to contribute to improving the quality of life of all Latin Americans and Caribbeans, with the purpose of being the Green Bank, which promotes regional integration and at the same time increases the portfolio of financing operations, through the Sustainable Tourism Directorate (DTS), supporting economic development by promoting public and private investments, with innovative proposals within the sector.

In 2021, CAF and UN Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding to join forces and promote innovation, investment and tourism sustainability. Within the framework of this document, the Guides Cooperation Agreement was signed (in this case with Costa Rica) to promote foreign investment in sustainable tourism initiatives.
