Marriott was named number one in the hotels, casinos and resorts category and ranked number 13 overall this year.

FORTUNE's annual rankings evaluate companies across all industries on nine criteria of corporate reputation, including excellence in leadership, innovation, social responsibility and ability to attract talent.

“It is an honor to be consistently included on FORTUNE’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Admired Companies. This recognition is a testament to the strength of our enduring culture and our focus on putting people first,” said Anthony Capuano, President and Executive Director of Marriott International. “We are proud to see Marriott recognized for our dedication to serving our guests, associates and communities around the world.”

This accolade follows other recent recognitions for the company, including FORTUNE and Great Place to Work’s 100 Best Companies to Work for in 2024, and reflects the successful launch of the company’s people brand, “Be,” in 2023. Designed to attract and retain top talent, “Be” empowers associates to meet their career goals, provides opportunities to grow in the hospitality industry, and furthers Marriott’s commitment to welcoming all.

As the company approaches its 100th anniversary, Marriott continues to focus on its core values of putting people first, striving for excellence, embracing change, acting with integrity and serving our world.

By 2024, company associates dedicated more than 3.4 million volunteer hours in local communities around the world, and more than 14.8 million associate volunteer hours have been logged since 2016. Initiatives include responding to disasters and supporting relief and recovery efforts in places like Hawaii, Kenya, Haiti and most recently, Los Angeles, California. The company has also trained more than 1.4 million Marriott associates in human trafficking awareness since 2016, in support of Marriott’s goal to educate all property associates on what to look for and how to respond. Outside of the company, hospitality professionals have also completed 2.2 million Marriott training courses.

Survey methodology

FORTUNE partnered with Korn Ferry on this corporate reputation survey. They started with a pool of about 1,500 candidates: the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue, along with non-U.S. companies from FORTUNE’s Global 500 database that have revenues of $10 billion or more. The list then narrowed down to the top-revenue companies in each industry — a total of 650 companies in 30 countries. The highest-rated companies were chosen from that pool of 650; the executives who voted work at companies in that pool.

To determine the top-rated companies in 51 industries, Korn Ferry asked executives, directors and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, from investment value and quality of management and products to social responsibility and ability to attract talent. A company must score in the top half of its industry's survey to be included on the list.
