Ecuadorian Tourism Minister Mateo Estrella said that the Fair was “a wonderful opportunity for the world to learn about the heritage, nature, gastronomy and sustainability that makes Ecuador a unique destination in the world.” He added that “the joy and vocation of service in the country complement the experience of travelers who always seek to return to our four worlds.”

The Ecuadorian delegation was made up of authorities from the Ministry of Tourism, 25 businessmen from the sector and seven destinations, and focused in general on the presentation of the destination Ecuador and the various localities that attended with their activations. In this sense, 1,875 business meetings were held with the international tourism trade.

Among the actions to benefit national tourism was the signing of a Technical Cooperation Agreement for the Strategic Planning of Sustainable Tourism in Ecuador, with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), which will allow the country to continue working towards sustainable tourism and will open new opportunities to position Ecuador as one of the most extraordinary destinations in the world.

Another highly relevant activity within the framework of the Fair was the official presentation of “Caminos Andinos” by the General Secretariat of the Andean Community (CAN), together with the Tourism authorities of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. “Caminos Andinos” is an initiative to promote the tourism offer of the four countries, highlighting their common elements: cultural heritage, natural heritage, gastronomy, and ancestral communities and rurality. To this end, specific routes were generated that will contribute to the revitalization of the economies of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the sector.

Awards for Ecuador and its destinations

Within the Tourism Excellence Awards granted within the framework of FITUR, Ecuador obtained two recognitions: the Tourism Excellence Award for the Ministry of Tourism for the development of the Country Brand, and the Blue Category Award for Golden Experiences & Travel, from Galapagos.

On the other hand, the Provincial Chamber of Tourism of Pichincha (CAPTUR) received recognition from the International Association for Tourism Cooperation and Development (ASICOTUR) for its important contribution to tourism with the Decarbonization Project of the Hotel Sector of Pichincha, highlighting the work carried out to reduce the carbon footprint in hotels in Latin America.
