The Undersecretariat of Tourism and the National Tourism Service issued a positive assessment following the publication of the report prepared by Sernatur with the results of the room occupancy rate during the summer holidays, particularly for the week between Monday 20 and Saturday 25 January of this year.
The study recorded a total occupancy rate of 63.7% in the 53 tourist destinations measured this season. Of the total destinations measured this year, 42 can be compared with 2024, resulting in an increase of 3.0 percentage points in 2025.
In fact, twenty-six of the forty-two destinations had an increase in the occupancy rate in 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, with the destinations Patagonia Costa (+31.5 pp), Temuco and its surroundings (+28.5 pp), Aysén Patagonia – Queulat (+27.9 pp) and Rapa Nui (+21.2 pp) standing out with a growth of over 20 percentage points.
In this regard, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo, said: “This is the year of Chile’s tourism consolidation. More than five million foreign tourists arrived last year, and we have great projections for this summer season. In addition, we will host three major international events, which will put Chile in the eye of the world with two of its most recognized experiences: nature and gastronomy.”
In addition, Undersecretary Pardo urged Chileans to get to know their own country: “Increasing occupancy rates during the month of January is good news for our industry and for the economic development of the regions. We are deeply pleased with the good occupancy figures in our southern and austral macro-zones, where the figure has exceeded 80%. However, we must not forget that the northern macro-zone also offers diverse experiences, such as the desert, the high plateau, astrotourism, wine tourism and, of course, beaches and cities. We are invited to all to get to know, love and care for our country, and to discover each of its destinations.”
Of the 53 destinations measured this year, three stand out with more than 80% hotel occupancy. These destinations are: Coyhaique and Puerto Aysén (87.3%), Lago Llanquihue and Todos Los Santos (85.2%) and Patagonia Costa (80.4%).
The national director of Sernatur, Cristóbal Benítez, said that “these figures are encouraging, because it means that all the work to promote Chile as a destination in international markets and the invitation we have made to national tourists to enjoy our country because Chile is Yours! have had positive results for the industry. Proof of this is the occupancy rate of more than 80% in the destinations of Coyhaique and Puerto Aysén, Lago Llanquihue and Todos Los Santos and Patagonia Costa. It is also true that at a national level, the measurement of the 53 tourist destinations shows a hotel occupancy rate of 63.7%.”
Of the six destinations in the southern zone considered in this study, all have a tourist accommodation occupancy rate of over 70% in the measurement period, these being: Coyhaique and Puerto Aysén (87.3%), Aysén Patagonia – Queulat (77.9%), Chelenko (77.5%), Torres del Paine National Park (75.8%), Strait of Magellan (73.8%) and Los Glaciares Province (72.2%).
