The event, held at the Rosewood Hotel, brought together Dominican tourism authorities, such as Minister David Collado and Vice Minister Roberto Henríquez, as well as representatives of the travel industry. After passing through Brazil, the delegation will head to Buenos Aires on February 5, continuing the initiative.

Tourism in the Dominican Republic has seen record growth, with approximately 11.19 million visitors expected in 2024, up 10,000 from 2023 and 48,000 from 2022. Flights to the Dominican Republic grew by 67% from North America, 13% from South America, and 12% from Europe. In Brazil, São Paulo led shipments with 45%, followed by Minas Gerais, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul (9%) and Santa Catarina (7%).

Records and strategies for 2025

The data presented during the event highlight the success of Dominican tourism, with 8.5 million air arrivals and 2.7 million cruise passengers, marking an increase of 6% and 18%, respectively, compared to the previous year. The authorities highlighted the importance of the Brazilian market in this growth and the fundamental role of tour operators in the consolidation of the destination.

"Brazil, and especially São Paulo, has been fundamental to the recovery of tourism in the Dominican Republic. We are redoubling our efforts in this regard and this success deserves a warm welcome," emphasized Minister Collado.

Incentives and loyalty for travel agents

To further strengthen the relationship with the Brazilian market, the Ministry of Tourism has promoted loyalty strategies, such as the DO Travel Rewards program, which trains and rewards travel agents who sell tourist packages to the Caribbean destination. Benefits include cash incentives, travel prize drawings, and participation in exclusive industry events. Incentives include rewards paid through Amazon gift cards, PayPal, or debit card, making it easier for agents from different countries to participate.

During the presentation, a special promotion was highlighted in which each night booked in the Dominican Republic is equivalent to a monetary incentive for registered agents. The campaign seeks to increase participation and reward those who contribute to the expansion of Dominican tourism.

Investments and future prospects

The success of Dominican tourism is not only due to its natural and cultural wealth, but also to an aggressive strategy of promotion and infrastructure improvements. In recent years, the government has prioritized the modernization of airports, the revitalization of tourist spaces and participation in international fairs to attract investors.

The event in São Paulo reaffirmed the strong relationship between Brazil and the Dominican Republic in the tourism sector, making it clear that the Caribbean country will continue to invest in the Brazilian market as part of its growth strategy for 2025.

Taste Paradise campaign highlights the country's potential and attracts investments

The Dominican Republic launched its latest promotional campaign, “Taste Paradise” in São Paulo, as part of a roadshow aimed at strengthening tourism in Brazil and Latin America. The event brought together travel agents, tour operators and investors in the sector to present new developments and opportunities in the Caribbean destination.

Dominican Tourism Minister David Collado said: “We are happy with the results for 2024. In the American market we grew by more than 100% and in the Canadian market, approximately 10%.”

Hotel expansion reinforces the destination's attractiveness

With tourism booming, the Dominican Republic is preparing to welcome five new luxury hotel chains by 2025. Among the brands that will establish themselves in the country are Rosewood, W Punta Cana, Westin Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis and The Ritz-Carlton.

The expansion of the hotel network demonstrates the growing interest of international investors and strengthens the country's tourism infrastructure.

Brazil as a priority market

Collado highlighted the importance of Brazil in the tourism promotion strategy. According to him, São Paulo represents 45% of Brazilian visitors traveling to the Dominican Republic. "We are strengthening our relationship with the Latin American market and Brazil plays a crucial role in this growth," he said.

In addition to São Paulo, the roadshow will continue through Argentina, Colombia and Germany, reinforcing the Dominican Republic's commitment to market diversification and attracting new tourists.

Record figures and prospects for 2025

Tourism in the Dominican Republic broke records in 2023, with 11.19 million visitors. Of these, 8.5 million arrived by air and 2.7 million by sea, registering growth of 6% and 18%, respectively, compared to the previous year.

The goal for 2025 is to continue expanding air connectivity, attracting new investments and strengthening the tourist experience, combining technology, hospitality and high-standard infrastructure.

With year-round sunshine, heavenly beaches, music and welcoming people, the Dominican Republic reaffirms its position as one of the most sought-after destinations in the Caribbean.
