Meliá Hotels International has consolidated its position as one of the leading companies in sustainability, topping the MERCO ESG Responsibility sector ranking for another year. In addition to positioning itself as the most responsible tourism company in Spain, the company has entered the top 20 of the general ranking, following the improvement in its results and the result of its firm commitment to sustainability.
MERCO, a leading organisation in the evaluation of corporate reputation, has published the latest edition of its ranking in which it analyses companies in different ESG areas, such as ethics and good governance, responsibility towards workers and society, and environmental management. The results obtained through an exhaustive monitor prepared with 7 analysis perspectives, 26 sources of information and more than 63 thousand surveys carried out, have highlighted the progress made by Meliá Hotels International in this area.
The hotel chain has thus strengthened its leadership in the sector and has not only improved its position in the general ranking, but also in the rankings prepared by MERCO for each of the ESG dimensions. Specifically, Meliá has improved its score in the environmental and social areas, in line with the drive it is making to boost its sustainability strategy and its Travel For Good responsible tourism programme.
As explained by Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, “sustainability has always been part of our company’s DNA and in recent years we have strengthened our position in this field as one of the most sustainable hotel chains in the world. We are proud to be recognised once again, maintaining our commitments and improving results, but we are aware of the challenges and will seek to address them with the support and involvement of our collaborators, partners, clients and suppliers, wherever we are.”
