Medellin strengthens its position as an international tourist destination in 2025

The capital of Antioquia continues to consolidate itself as a key destination for international tourism

According to the most recent analysis of air reservations by ForwardKeys, Medellín registered a 30.1% growth in international reservations between January and June 2025, becoming one of the Colombian cities with the greatest dynamism in attracting foreign tourists. With a 19.3% share of international reservations to Colombia, Medellín is positioned as the second most important destination after Bogotá.

The Science, Technology and Innovation District shows a notable upward trend in terms of leisure tourism thanks to the fact that 77.1% of reservations to Colombia in 2025 are motivated by leisure trips, a trend that Medellín has been able to capitalize on with its varied offer of culture, nature, gastronomy and entertainment. 

Similarly, the city received almost 50% of international reservations from tourists from Costa Rica, making the capital of Antioquia a key reference for this market. This is added to the fact that on average international reservations to Medellín register longer stays, which indicates a greater intention to explore the destination and a positive impact on the local economy.

The city's projection continues to rise, supported by its offer in meeting tourism, entertainment and high-impact experiences.

Connectivity and strategic markets 

The report also highlights that the United States is the main source market for tourists to Medellín, followed by Panama, Mexico and Puerto Rico. In addition, the city has significantly increased its presence in emerging markets such as Spain and Brazil.

Medellín will continue to strengthen its international promotion plan to continue capturing strategic markets and establish itself as a reference city in Latin America for meetings, entertainment and high-impact experiences tourism.
