The international hotel group, Palladium Hotel Group announces the start of construction for its new resort expansion project of the Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts brand in Jamaica. The construction of this second phase is promoted by Grupo Empresas Matutes, owner of the asset, which currently has a total of 1,049 rooms, distributed in two hotels: Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa and Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa.
This second phase of construction will add a total of 948 rooms and will strengthen the presence of the Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts brand in Jamaica, also incorporating the Family Selection at Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts concept and introducing the luxury TRS Hotels brand for adults only, all-inclusive.
Details of the expansion project were announced at a groundbreaking ceremony on February 18, 2025, attended by Prime Minister Dr. The Right Honourable Andrew Holness, several government ministers and other senior government officials of Jamaica, the Ambassador of Spain, HE José María Fernández López, stakeholders from the tourism and private sectors, as well as the Vice President of the Empresas Matutes Group and President of the Palladium Hotel Group, Abel Matutes.
“Jamaica holds a special place in Palladium Hotel Group’s global portfolio and we are confident in the tourism potential that this country holds,” said Abel Matutes, Vice Chairman of Empresas Matutes Group and President of Palladium Hotel Group. “This development honors our commitment to supporting Jamaica’s economic growth, providing sustainable employment opportunities and enhancing the island’s global appeal as a premier tourism destination.”
This expansion represents a significant investment in Jamaica's tourism sector, which will positively impact the region's labour market, creating thousands of jobs during the construction phase, and around 1,500 direct jobs and another 2,000 indirect jobs in related sectors once the resort is operational. The sectors that are expected to see the greatest positive impact are transport, agriculture and local services.
The project also prioritizes sustainability through energy-efficient designs, including architectural strategies to reduce heat, a building management system to optimize lighting and ventilation, and the use of renewable energy from photovoltaic panels and a hybrid trigeneration plant.
Water conservation measures include low-flow systems, an intelligent water management system, a seawater desalination plant and treated wastewater for irrigation.
During his inaugural address, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness noted: “This groundbreaking represents another significant investment in Jamaica and our growing tourism industry. I warmly welcome the representatives of Grupo Empresas Matutes and Palladium Hotel Group, who have demonstrated unwavering confidence in Jamaica as an investment destination. Today, as we mark this momentous occasion, we are not only breaking ground on a physical structure, but we are laying the groundwork for a future where tourism in Jamaica is more inclusive, sustainable and innovative than ever before.”
