Airbus and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) announced an agreement to support the implementation of feasibility studies on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in Argentina, Panama and Peru during the 18th Meeting of Civil Aviation Authorities of the South American Region in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

These studies will be part of the
ICAO Assistance, Capacity Building and Training in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (ACT-SAF) Programme which provides support to States to develop their potential in the development and implementation of SAF.

Through this agreement, Airbus confirms its commitment to leading the decarbonisation of the aviation sector. It also marks an important milestone, as it is the first time that an ACT-SAF feasibility study is funded by a private company from the aerospace industry.

Investing in SAF is key to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Today, Sustainable Aviation Fuels can reduce CO2 emissions by 80% on average over their entire lifecycle. Airbus supports the large-scale development of SAF and collaborates with airlines, airports, SAF producers,
research institutes and civil aviation authorities around the world to advance the SAF ecosystem, addressing the policy and regulatory environment as well as supply and demand drivers.

This announcement comes at a key time for Latin America, where progress has been made in developing the SAF regulatory framework in countries such as Brazil, Colombia and Chile.
