The market has demonstrated sustained expansion, supported by the January 2025 performance, which marked a record for commercial aviation in the region. In turn, the LAC airline industry has proven to be a market in full expansion.
January 2025 marks record figures for commercial aviation.
This month, the region handled 42.3 million passengers, an increase of 2.4% compared to the same month last year, marking the best start to the year in the history of the sector. This growth is due to the reactivation of routes, the implementation of open skies policies and a greater demand for international tourism. All these factors show that the work done by the industry in the region is yielding good results and that, in addition, some governments have understood the importance of aviation as a driving force for economies.
The domestic market continues to be the cornerstone of growth, contributing 44% of the total increase. Brazil led this segment with 438,448 additional passengers, reaching a total of 8.6 million passengers and a growth of 5.3%. But in addition to Brazil, Argentina and Mexico showed positive figures.
In the intraregional market, which added 5.3 million passengers (+10.5%), the routes between Brazil and Chile (+41%) and Ecuador and Panama (+53%) stood out for their performance. In the extraregional segment, traffic with Europe grew by 14.6%, while connectivity with North America increased by 10.4%, with Panama – USA as one of the main drivers.
The projections for LAC remain positive, with an ecosystem of airlines, airports and suppliers working to strengthen aviation as a key sector for regional development.
With these results, 2025 begins with an optimistic horizon for aviation in the region. The consolidation of new routes, the growth of connectivity and the industry's commitment to sustainable development will continue to be key to maintaining the positive trajectory.
