Travelers traveling through the German cities of Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Cologne this month will encounter a fleet of elegantly styled electric taxis, decorated with striking images of Costa Rica's biodiversity on their doors.

This initiative is part of the ICT's promotional activities and complements the participation of 41 Costa Rican tourism companies in the ITB 2025 Trade Fair, held in Berlin from March 4 to 6, the world's largest and most popular tourism trade fair.

Traditional cream or light ivory Berlin taxis travel through the historic German capital, displaying vibrant images of Costa Rica throughout the month of March. Their doors display lush natural landscapes, beaches, volcanoes, and iconic wildlife, including the sloth and the frog. All of this is accompanied by the essential Costa Rica country brand, along with a QR code inviting visitors to explore the German-language version of the official promotional website, visitcostarica.com.

A total of 100 electric taxis featuring images of Costa Rica are available, distributed as follows: 40 in Berlin; 10 in Frankfurt; 15 in Munich; 15 in Düsseldorf; 10 in Hamburg; and 10 in Cologne.

“ITB Berlin is one of the most important tourism fairs in the world, and our presence is part of the efforts we undertake at ICT to promote Costa Rica. Being here is particularly crucial for us because Germany and the entire German-speaking market are the most important in Europe for Costa Rica. The results of the meetings and the presence of tourism entrepreneurs have been spectacular, and we have high expectations for what will be achieved,” said William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism.

Carolina Trejos, ICT's market director, added, emphasizing the importance of participating in ITB and the characteristics that make Costa Rica attractive to Germans.

"The German market is very specific when it comes to the products they seek. They love nature, visiting different destinations in our country, and staying in Costa Rica for more than 17 days. It's a market we've invested in and want to be present at all times. This fair also allows us to be close to other markets like Switzerland and Austria," Trejos added.

Global showcase for tourism business.
The ITB Berlin Trade Fair is considered the world's leading tourism trade fair. This year's edition features 5,800 exhibitors from more than 170 countries at the impressive Messe Berlin trade fair center. This 59-year-old professional tourism event's motto this year is "The World of Travel Lives Here."

Representatives from our country will offer the latest in hotel services, tour operators, car rentals, travel agencies, adventure activities, wellness tourism, and more.

Visitors to the striking booth—designed with comfortable seating and modern decor—will be able to take a visual tour of Costa Rica's main tourist attractions and enjoy a coffee tasting area with the support of an expert ICAFE barista.

During 2024, 73,654 tourists visited us from Germany, making it our main source market for travelers from Europe. German travelers enjoy sun and beach experiences, local cuisine, observing flora and fauna, and visiting volcanoes. Their travel periods to Costa Rica are typically concentrated between January and March, July and August, and November and December.
