Mexican Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora reported that in January 2025, foreign currency income from international visitors reached $3.3467 billion, up 6.5 percent compared to the same month in 2024 and 46.2 percent more than in 2019.
According to the results of the International Traveler Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 8 million international visitors arrived in the country in the first month of 2025, 18.6 percent more than in January of the previous year.
He explained that the sustained increase in the number of visitors and the income generated fosters job creation, promotes the development of tourism infrastructure, and enriches cultural exchange between Mexicans and international visitors. He added that our country remains a leading global destination that, through its diverse offerings and hospitality, fosters the well-being of its communities and energizes sustainable development.
On the other hand, in the first 31 days of 2025, foreign currency income from international tourists was $3,073.9 million, 4.6 percent more than in 2024 and 46.7 percent more than in 2019, reported the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
He noted that, during January 2025, 3.9 million international tourists entered the country, representing an increase of 8.5 percent and 13.4 percent compared to the same periods in 2024 and 2019, respectively.
He highlighted that in the first month of 2025, 2.1 million inbound tourists arrived in Mexico by air, with an average spending of $1,306.8 million, 3.6 percent more than in 2024, and 21.6 percent more than the average spending recorded in the same period in 2019.
He specified that, in January 2025, the balance of international visitors was $2.265 billion, 66.6 percent more than the balance collected during the same period in 2019.
He stated that in the first month of 2025, 1.2 million cruise passengers arrived at the various ports, 9.8 percent more than in 2024 and 19.2 percent more than in 2019. Furthermore, foreign currency income from cruise ship visitors amounted to $99.1 million, 12 percent more than in 2024 and 49.1 percent more than in the same period in 2019.
Rodríguez Zamora asserted that with all of the above, tourism activity is expected to continue its positive, growing trend in 2025. This, combined with promotional strategies such as Mexico's participation in various international fairs and the upcoming relaunch of the VisitMéxico website, will help consolidate tourism as an important axis of development and a generator of Shared Prosperity, as instructed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
