In the first 24 hours, 1,169 tickets were sold through its website www.arajet.com for flights between Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo and Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, United States.
“The opening of the route to New York exceeded all our expectations,” said Víctor Pacheco, CEO and founder of Arajet. “We knew this was the most anticipated route, but the response has been 10 times more positive than our routes to Miami or San Juan. We are deeply grateful for the support of our people.”
The official launch of the route took place this Monday at the Gregorio Luperón School in Washington Heights, Manhattan, with the presence of Congressman Adriano Espaillat and Dominican consuls Jesús Vásquez and José Santana, representing New York and New Jersey, respectively.
Pacheco emphasized that this new connection between Santo Domingo and New York will increase market competitiveness, offering greater travel opportunities with affordable fares and world-class onboard service.
The Santo Domingo-Newark route will begin operations on June 16, 2025, with four weekly flights. Due to renovations at Newark Airport, the route will have a six-week hiatus between September and October. Arajet plans to operate one daily flight on this route starting in November.
With this expansion, Arajet reaffirms its commitment to strengthening connectivity between the Dominican Republic and its diaspora, facilitating access to direct and affordable flights for more Dominicans.
