In a joint effort to continue strengthening the Costa Rican tourism sector, the Banco Popular y de Desarrollo Comunal (Popular and Communal Development Bank) and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) have signed a letter of understanding that will expand access to financial information, technical assistance, and support for sustainable and innovative projects in the sector.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between both institutions with the aim of promoting economic growth in the sector, in line with the National Tourism Plan and community development strategies.

Through this agreement, access to preferential financing will be promoted for projects that promote environmental sustainability, the digitalization of tourism services, and post-pandemic economic recovery. In addition, financial education, business management training, and specialized consulting will be offered to industry stakeholders.

Banco Popular's General Manager, Gina Carvajal, highlighted the importance of this partnership: "Tourism is one of the main sources of employment and development in Costa Rica. With this agreement, Banco Popular reinforces its ongoing commitment to SMEs and entrepreneurs in the sector, providing financial tools that allow them to grow sustainably and innovatively. Thus, as a bank with a deep social commitment, we continue to spread hope and open opportunities to more working people throughout the country."

For his part, Tourism Minister William Rodríguez highlighted the importance of inter-institutional work to strengthen the country's competitiveness in this area: "This joint effort seeks to boost the resilience of the tourism sector, providing concrete opportunities for entrepreneurs and communities that depend on this activity. With access to financing and technical assistance, we are promoting a more robust, inclusive, and sustainable tourism industry."

The letter of understanding not only facilitates access to financial resources for companies in the sector, but also promotes cooperation on high-impact initiatives that will contribute to the well-being of citizens.

Both institutions have expressed their interest in continuing to work together to strengthen tourism as a driver of economic and social development in Costa Rica.
