Although, following the pandemic, Colombians' travel habits have changed somewhat, such as the time of year they choose to vacation, the holiday season remains one of their favorite times of the year.
In December 2024 and January 2025, more than 10.3 million passengers traveled on domestic and international flights, representing an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, 5.8 million were passengers on domestic flights, representing a 3.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
"Although domestic tourism continues to grow, we must continue to encourage more Colombians to travel to more destinations, considering that only 7.8% of our fellow citizens travel within Colombia. Travel agencies have been working to diversify their offerings to showcase the country's tourism strength to domestic and international travelers," explained Paula Cortés Calle, Executive President of ANATO.
The departments with the highest concentration of domestic passenger traffic for the holiday season were Bogotá, with 36%; Antioquia, with 15%; Bolívar, with 8%; Valle del Cauca, with 7%; and Magdalena, with 6%. However, other destinations with a strong tourist vocation showed significant growth figures for this holiday season, such as Guainía, with 67%; Guaviare and Vaupés, with 43%; and Vichada, with 34%.
“At ANATO, we have always emphasized the importance of providing entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge that allow them to offer more diverse products. That is why, as a union, we have intensified our efforts to train them and help them improve competitiveness in the country's diverse regions by developing more attractive portfolios,” the union leader stated.
