Aruba, recognized as the Happy Island of the Caribbean, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism through "My Promise to Aruba," an initiative that invites visitors to enjoy the destination with awareness and respect for its natural and cultural environment.
The program, launched in conjunction with the International Day of Happiness, seeks to strengthen Aruba's spirit of hospitality by encouraging travelers to take an active role in preserving its landscapes, traditions, and biodiversity.
A Commitment to the Future of Tourism
For Jordan Schlipken, Director of the Aruba Tourism Authority for Latin America (ATA), “Our culture is based on kindness, generosity, and respect. We invite every guest on the island to join us in this commitment, called the Aruba Promise, by pledging to help protect the island's beauty and biodiversity, ensuring it remains a welcoming and happy place.”
Travelers can adhere to this promise with four key principles:
Minimize environmental impact: Enjoy nature without leaving waste or disturbing its ecosystem.
Embrace the island's relaxed pace: Live each moment with calm and gratitude.
Be a respectful guest: Appreciate the local culture, traditions, and community.
Travel responsibly: Help ensure Aruba remains One Happy Island for future generations.
Signing the pledge is more than a symbolic gesture; it's a call to travel with purpose, enjoying the island with awareness and responsibility.
Five Principles of Happiness in Aruba
1. Gratitude: Asking yourself, “What am I grateful for?” is the first step to embracing happiness. Whether it’s for the people in your life, your health, or the nature around you, finding a way to express gratitude transforms your perspective. In Aruba, a simple “Masha Danki” (thank you very much) reflects this spirit.
2. Well-being: Caring for others begins with caring for yourself. From work-life balance to the importance of rest and physical activity, well-being is key to a fulfilling life.
3. Community: With a population of over 100 nationalities, Aruba understands the value of diversity and connection. Building community and welcoming others strengthens happiness through inclusion.
4. Kindness: Happiness manifests itself in small acts of kindness. Arubans live this out every day, demonstrating that kindness received is kindness shared.
5. Growth: Curiosity drives growth and opens doors to new experiences. Exploring, learning, and sharing knowledge enriches both those who receive it and those who transmit it.
A journey that leaves a mark on the heart
The essence of Aruba goes beyond its idyllic landscapes. It's a destination that invites you to travel with purpose, to cherish what you love, and to share genuine happiness.
