São Paulo, March 20, 2025 – Azul, the largest airline in terms of number of flights and destinations served in Brazil, will begin selling tickets for its new Recife-Madrid, Spain, and Recife-Asunción, Paraguay, routes this Thursday, March 20. The route to Europe will be regular, starting in June, and has never been operated by the company before. The flight to Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, will be seasonal in July, and will be operated for the second time, due to its success last year.
The new direct flight from Recife to Madrid will connect Brazil to the Spanish capital, famous for its history, culture, gastronomy and vibrant life, in addition to providing European tourists with a gateway to the Company's third largest hub, meeting the
demand of Brazilian and Spanish customers.
"We are Azul's main hub in the Northeast. With this new flight to Madrid, we not only expand the destination options, but also strengthen international connections, opening new opportunities for tourism and business in Pernambuco", highlighted Eduardo
Loyo, president of Empetur.
The choice of the capital of Pernambuco to host the route was strategic, since the city is the main connectivity point and the Company's largest hub in the Northeast. Currently, Guararapes International Airport operates 46 routes, both domestic and international.
The city has become a fundamental connection to other destinations in the Northeast, North and South of Brazil, in addition to being an important link for regional and international flights. In 2024 alone, there were more than 29 thousand takeoffs from Recife, totaling 3.8 million
seats offered from the capital of Pernambuco.
"Recife is strategically important as it is one of the main connectivity hubs in the Brazilian Northeast. Pernambuco has great regional influence and meets all the connectivity criteria needed to offer customers a new gateway
to Europe, in a more agile and efficient way, making Azul's network increasingly robust in the city of Pernambuco", says César Grandolfo, Institutional Relations Manager at Azul.
"Azul Linhas Aéreas, responsible for this new route, already connects Recife to several international destinations. The inclusion of Madrid in its air network further reinforces the relevance of our airport, consolidating Pernambuco's position on the international scene,"
said acting governor Priscila Krause.
Why visit Madrid?
Madrid is a fascinating destination for many reasons. The city is home to world-famous museums and is a foodie’s paradise, with delicious tapas and traditional dishes. Madrid is also known for its lively nightlife, with bars, flamenco houses and parties
that last until dawn. And the city keeps its traditions alive, such as bullfights (for those interested in bullfighting culture), popular festivals like San Isidro and exciting flamenco shows.
Recife-Asuncion
The Recife-Asunción route begins operating on July 3rd, on a seasonal basis. With the success of this flight between December 2024 and the beginning of February this year, Azul decided to repeat the destination in 2025.
"The return of the route between Recife and Asunción meets a demand seen in the end-of-year operation, both from Paraguayan and Brazilian tourists. We hope to see an increase in the number of visitors and greater circulation of people, goods and new business
taking place between the two countries," concluded Grandolfo.
Why visit Asuncion?
Asunción is the capital and largest city of Paraguay, located on the banks of the Paraguay River. It is one of the oldest cities in South America. Asunción is the political, economic and cultural center of Paraguay, with rapid growth and an urban environment that
blends tradition and modernity. Asunción attracts tourists from Brazil and Argentina who come to buy imported products, electronics and luxury goods.
